MORE than 1,000 people attended a free Christian family fun day in Trowbridge Town Park.Organised by a group of Trowbridge churches called Christian Action for the Trowbridge Area (CATA), the event on Thursday offered families the chance to have fun and learn more about religious organisations in the town in a relaxed way. There was hair braiding and face painting along with a free barbecue, inflatables, games, music and dancing.
Adrian Isaac, of the organising committee, said: "It was a free day for the community to show them that the church still has a relevant place in our society. We cooked almost 750 burgers and over 500 sausages and gave away lots of free cakes too. We felt it went extremely well. The community was very open and amazed how we do everything for free. The money all comes from donations from people in the churches in Trowbridge."
The day was split into two halves with the free family fun session running from 2-5pm and a church outdoors evening from 5.30-7pm. There were various arts and crafts activities such as mask making and a giant 'wheel of light' canvas for everyone to paint their own section. A puppet show was extremely popular as were the two rock bands that performed. There was also a talktalk tent for people to write down things they would like others to pray for and stick them up on the walls. Members of the Impax, the Trowbridge branch of Christian youth organisation Urban Saints, also helped stage the event, which is now in its second year.
